Platonic Space,
2025-26 (in progress)
Patterns are alive, and we are living patterns. - Michael Levin
This work engages with the idea of Platonic space, where the universe emerges from multiple patterns. Michael Levin approaches this from the perspective of evolutionary biology, while Max Tegmark describes it as a mathematical universe. This project looks for new ways of seeing the universe through the lens of Platonic spaces and interconnected patterns.
Each drawing illustrates living, breathing systems and organisms, rooted in molecular and atomic connectivity, continually evolving, reshaping, and growing within both natural and metaphysical realms. Some patterns reference advanced biology, quantum physics, and social systems, while others are derived from planetary events. Most of the drawings, however, show two different scales simultaneously; others work in pairs as zoomed-in and zoomed-out views of the same pattern.
An important inspiration for this work is Jean-Pierre Luminet’s 1979 simulation of a black hole. Using early computer programming, mathematical calculations, and India ink, he created a visualisation long before black holes could be directly observed. Decades later, the first actual image, captured in 2019, confirmed just how accurate his vision had been. Drawing on Jean-Pierre Luminet’s hand-plotted drawings, each work aims to offer speculative visual predictions to deepen our understanding of living patterns and our place within.
